First Juice Review & Giveaway! (Ends 4/9)

(You may remember this post, but I have updated it to include a GIVEAWAY!)
Have you ever noticed just how many juice brands there are? I have and it is confusing, especially when you start reading the ingredients. I mean I thought fruit juice had fruit in it, but no it probably doesn’t. So when my son started drinking juice I began searching for a healthy version and that is when I came across First Juice at Target.

First Juice is the nation’s first organic, low sugar, fruit and vegetable juice for infants and toddlers. Their mission is “To make products that can help parents positively influence children’s taste-preference development.” I truly believe that if you get your children to eat healthy when they are young that they will be more likely to eat better as they get older. With First Juice drinks they are colorful, funky, and my son doesn’t even realize it is healthy for him! I never realized how much sugar is in some brands of apple juice (27g per 8 oz.) compared to First Juice (12g per 8 oz.) With my son loving juice, I love that I can give him a First Juice blend and not worry that I am rotting his insides with so much sugar!

First Juice comes in four varieties: Apple + Carrot, Banana + Carrot, Blueberry + Purple Carrot, and Peach + Purple Carrot. Okay so right now you are probably thinking: Huh, did she say Purple Carrot? Yes I did. A Purple Carrot is actually what some of the original carrots looked like, back when everything was technically organic! It is said that in the 16th century a Dutch scientist decided to cross breed a red carrot with a pale yellow carrot to make the orange carrot we are used to today. So First Juice has decided to bring back the purple carrots! The benefits of purple carrots are that it supplies powerful antioxidants for the body to help prevent damage to our bodies. Actually every color carrot (orange, purple, red, yellow, and white) provides different health benefits due to their different nutrients they contain.
What are some other great features of First Juice drinks?
  • Comes in a convenient 8 oz. recyclable sippy-style bottle for on-the-go (Or a 32. Oz bottle for home)
  • Includes calcium and Vitamins C and D
  • Is USDA Certified Organic
Now what I did before was just dilute each cup of juice I gave to Aidan to try to cut back on some of the sugar content. Well that is actually also diluting the nutrients and then really what is the point of the juice! With First Juice you don’t have to dilute as their drinks are formulated just right so they taste sweet but with less sugar! Also as I mentioned these drinks come in sippy-cup style bottles, which I can proclaim “Are Spill Proof!” Well Aidan was able to get a few drops out but it really was spill-proof and so convenient for me to toss in the diaper bag!

Aidan is now hooked on them, which I am happy with as they are sold at Target and Babies R Us and those are two plays I visit a lot! These drinks contain his favorite fruits and vegetables and I think are really helping him enjoy foods he normally doesn’t eat. Aidan likes carrots usually only when they are small and cubed, bananas when they are frozen, and apples when they are in applesauce. Since he has been drinking First Juice, he actually ate from a regular apple and munched on baby carrots!

I also love that First Juice was created by a dad who was shocked at the 25 grams of sugar in a typical juice box (which is actually 7.5 teaspoons!) His kids also caught onto the diluting and complained about the water being added and his wife complained about not having a convenient and spill proof cup to store in the diaper bag. So with all those ideas, David formed First Juice. Curious about First Juice? You can read about it at the First Juice website and while your there use the Store Locator and see which stores nearby you carry it!

I learned that carrots, like peppers, used to come in many colors. And I am amazed that you can actually get purple carrots! I also love how they combined fruits and veggies – just like other more popular brands (which aren’t organic though), so I can give my kids the best of both words (sweet and satisfying)
