How many times a week do you think “What are we going to have for dinner tonight?” I know in my house that is every day and it is usually around 5 pm that I start thinking about it. Now I praise those of you that can menu plan, but that really doesn’t work for our schedule so what I have tried to do as of lately is create a list of possible meal combinations I could make. Well as I was searching around the Internet, I came across a website for a company called “Relish!”
Relish was founded by two Colorado mothers, Ann and Karen, who loved to cook but didn’t have time to sift through cookbooks and magazines and they ended up with multiple trips to the grocery store. My problem is that I love going through cookbooks and ripping out magazine recipes, but I am not organized enough to then shop for the needed ingredients. Another mistake I have done is bought the ingredients off my list and then couldn’t figure out what recipe they were for!
Relish! is a company that I think their philosophy sums up perfectly:
So how does Relish! work? Once you sign up for a membership, each Thursday you will receive an email with a quick link back to the site. You then log in and begin your menu planning. You can log in any time, but your new weekly menus suggestions are posted on Thursdays. Choose from the Express Menu or you can choose to customize your menu. The Express Menu is a group of meals that is quick and inexpensive but still yummy! The list of meals includes: Vegetarian, Kid-Friendly, Quick, Low Calorie, and Simply-Gourmet. So there really is something for everyone, oh and the best part is that if you find that you what more of a certain type of recipe, just email them and ask! So you are then asked to choose at least 3 meals and here comes my favorite part (other than of course checking out all the awesome easy meals) it pulls up a list of ingredients you need in appropriate categories (Meats, Bread, Dairy) and then at the end of the grocery list is the corresponding recipes. Oh and another great feature is that the ingredient list has corresponding letters to the recipes you have picked! Yeah, very easy and organized, I love it!
Okay now let me tell you about some of the meal suggestions. These are not your typical meatloaf, chicken nuggets, or taco dinners. Some of the meals are: Almond-Crusted Chicken with Apricot-Glazed Carrots, Open Faced Meatball Sandwiches with Classic Cole Slaw, Grilled Sliders with Bacon and Horsey Mayo and Grilled Asparagus. Drooling yet?!?! Oh and what is dinner without a dessert? There is also a dessert menu item, this week for me it is Flourless Chocolate and Hazelnut Cake. All the dinners are kitchen-tested and take 30 minutes or less prep. So no more spending all day cooking! All of the meals are also meant to help you become more confident and savvy in the kitchen in your everyday cooking.

So maybe you aren’t really interested in any of the meals I listed above or you need a recipe for a particular occasion. Don’t worry, Relish! has it all! Found a favorite meal, you can add it to your favorites and then every week add it to your Custom Menu or search around their site for other meal suggestions. There is so much there to take advantage of! Everything on the site is broken down into categories and like I said you can always email Relish! and ask for more recipes in a certain category. Some of the categories are: Lunches, Slow Cooker, Dinner Parties, Appetizers, and Dinner & A Movie. So next time you are watching High School Musical, The Incredibles, or Pirates of the Caribbean make sure you check out their suggested menus! (There are currently 13 Dinner & A Movie combinations.)
Or maybe you need recipes to accommodate your growing family. Don’t worry Relish! meals can be customized for 2,4,6, or 8 people. Although obviously some meals are not scalable, such as lasagna, but hey then you have leftovers!
Do you prefer to make meals in advance and then freeze them? In about 2-3 hours you can prepare five yummy meals for your freezer. Each month Relish! lists 10 freezer meal selections to choose from.
I was given a 3 month subscription to Relish! to try it out and so far I love it. With everything I mentioned above and the recipes really are delicious, I feel as if I can’t go wrong! I love how organized it is and how it involves the computer since I am on the computer so much! I can see where it is saving me money as I am not buying random items and I have found that we are actually eating at home more. I mean with 2 kids 2 and under anything to make my life easier and still be affordable is a plus.
Buy It: You can purchase Relish! for yourself or to give as a gift. It costs $7 a month if you subscribe to the 3-month package or if you subscribe to the 6 or 12-month packages you save money! You can get Relish for one-year for $58.80!
